Promise
a small promise. a stronger you.

Privacy Policy

Effective August 6, 2026

Promise is built to run entirely on your own phone. There's no account to create and no server holding your data. This page explains, plainly, exactly what that means — and the one small exception: a bit of anonymous, non-personal usage data that helps us make the app's onboarding better.

01 What stays on your device

Everything you enter into Promise — your daily promise, your streak and history, your journal notes, your letter to your future self, and your settings — is saved in a single file inside the app's own storage on your phone. It is never uploaded, never backed up to a server we run, and never shared with anyone.

  • There is no sign-in, no account, and no password.
  • We cannot see your promise, your streak, or anything you've written — that data never leaves your device.
  • Deleting the app deletes this data permanently. There is no cloud copy to recover it from.

02 Anonymous usage analytics

via TelemetryDeck

To understand which parts of the onboarding process work well and which don't, Promise sends a small number of anonymous signals to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service based in the EU. This tells us things like "how many people reached this screen" or "which answer was most commonly picked" — never who you are.

These signals may include:

  • Which onboarding screen you reached (so we can see where people drop off).
  • Which answer you picked on onboarding questions, including the age range and gender option you selected during setup.
  • Which subscription plan you tapped on the paywall screen.

What this data does not include: your name, your promise text, your journal entries, your letter to your future self, your exact location, or any advertising or device identifier that could be used to track you across other apps or websites. TelemetryDeck does not use IDFA and this data is not linked to your identity.

03 Subscription and purchase processing

via RevenueCat

Promise's subscriptions (weekly and yearly plans) are purchased through Apple's App Store and managed using RevenueCat, a subscription infrastructure service. RevenueCat helps us confirm that a purchase went through and unlock the features that come with it.

Data RevenueCat may process on our behalf includes:

  • Which subscription plan you purchased and its current status (active, expired, cancelled).
  • An anonymous, randomly generated identifier for your installation of the app — not your name, email, or Apple ID.
  • Basic purchase and transaction metadata provided by Apple, needed to verify and activate your subscription.

This is not linked to your real-world identity. Promise has no accounts, so RevenueCat has no name, email, or other personal identifier to attach this data to — only an anonymous identifier tied to your installation of the app. This data is never used for advertising.

If you take part in our creator/affiliate referral program, a similar anonymous referral identifier may be shared with our affiliate tracking partner (currently InfluTo) so the correct referral is credited. This identifier is also not linked to your personal identity.

04 What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data to anyone, for any reason.
  • We don't show ads or use advertising networks.
  • We don't build advertising profiles or track you across other apps.
  • We don't require or collect your real name, email, or phone number to use the app.
  • We don't share data with anyone beyond the service providers described above (TelemetryDeck for anonymous analytics, RevenueCat for subscription processing) — never with data brokers or advertisers.

05 Children's privacy

Promise is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Age and gender selected during onboarding are stored only on-device and, when included in anonymous analytics, are never linked to an individual identity.

06 Your rights

Because Promise doesn't have accounts or store personal data on any server, most requests to access, correct, or delete "your data" are already satisfied by simply deleting the app from your phone. If you have questions about the anonymous analytics described above, or a request related to data protection law (including GDPR, since we're based in the EU), reach out using the contact below.

07 Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the update will be posted at this same link with a new effective date above.

Terms of Use

Effective July 28, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Promise mobile application ("the App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.

01 The app

Promise is a daily habit-tracking app that helps you set and keep small promises to yourself. The App runs entirely on your device — there is no account system, and your personal data (your promise, streak, journal, and letter to your future self) is stored only locally on your phone, as described in the Privacy Policy above.

02 Subscriptions

Promise offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions ("Subscriptions") purchased through Apple's App Store, currently available as a weekly plan and a yearly plan (the yearly plan includes a 3-day free trial). By purchasing a Subscription, you agree to the following:

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price of the plan you selected.
  • You can manage or cancel a Subscription at any time from your Apple ID account settings. Deleting the App does not cancel a Subscription.
  • Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a paid Subscription, where applicable.
  • Prices may change; you'll be notified in advance as required by Apple's guidelines, and any change applies only to future billing periods.

Deleting your data won't cancel a subscription. Since Promise has no accounts, the "delete my data" option in the app erases your locally stored progress, but an active Subscription continues until you cancel it directly through your Apple ID account settings.

03 Acceptable use

You agree to use the App only for its intended purpose, and not to misuse, reverse-engineer, or attempt to disrupt the App or the services it relies on.

04 Not professional advice

Promise is a personal habit-tracking tool and is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice. If you're struggling with your mental health, please consult a qualified professional.

05 Intellectual property

The App, including its design, illustrations, and text, belongs to us and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the App without permission.

06 No warranty

The App is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will produce any particular outcome for you.

07 Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App.

08 Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
